The Cowgirl Gallery opens the spring season with a solo exhibition of the latest works by Malmö-based painter and sculptor Jonathan Sendborn (1997, Borås).

​

In By The Fire, Sendborn invites the viewer to a world inhabited by monsters, dragons, and flowers, realized through both figurative and abstract sculptures and paintings. Through a diverse range of visual techniques, Sendborn’s artistic style is characterized by a blend of naïvism and expressionism. His works combine innocent and nightmarish motives in a simplistic yet playful way. Using primary colors and basic geometric forms, his fantasy figures are both kind and frightening.

 

Jonathan Sendborn’s strength and signature lie in his spontaneous approach to art and energetic language, where the distance is short between first thought and final result. Central to Sendborn’s process is his use of materials gathered from streets and scrapyards. He draws inspiration from the constraints imposed by working with these materials, where size, color, and format are always shifting. Through the process of reconstruction and recontextualization, broken chairs, military tents, and other abandoned objects integrate and become part of his artistic universe.
