Hugo Mugerwa Klockars

A Breathing Score

May 2026

Cowgirl Gallery presents Hugo Mugerwa Klockars’s first solo exhibition, A Breathing Score. In presenting works such as Kin of Skin, Air Passage and a pump organ sound installation, Klockars brings together cyanotype, photomontage, and sculpture, combining raw materials like metal and stone with family archival material from Uganda. Working across photography and sculpture, he explores identity and a sense of being in between, where stitching and assembled images become a way of processing and repair. Hugo Mugerwa Klockars (b. 2003) is currently studying at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. On the occasion of the exhibition A Breathing Score, Cowgirl Press launches the second issue of its Conversation Series. In conversation with journalist Harry Thorfinn-George, Mugerwa Klockars reflects on his new works, healing, and his relationship to sacred music. At the opening at Cowgirl Gallery, he will also perform a work for organ.
